Erica + Matt :: Westin Savannah Harbor Resort Wedding Part II

Let me start Part II of Erica and Matt's wedding with a small homage to Mother Nature and the beauty of Savannah. I always hate to start the "official" wedding season off with a soggy day, a blistering hot day, or well any day other than exactly what we got! While it was breezy, okay scratch that, down right gusty at moments -- how much more perfect could it have been. The harbor view of Savannah's River Street with glimpses of the bridge and the gold dome of City Hall in the background are simply breathtaking. Sometimes, I think because I grew up here and have seen the full evolution to what it is today, it's easy to take all this for granted, but today I'm grateful that growing up here gave me a distinct love for the romanticism of a live oak draped in spanish moss, the kiss of the salt water against your face, and a distinct Savannah drawl saying "thanks" and "yes ma'am" to complete strangers.

And now for some wedding wisdom we can all take into everyday occassions:

1.) Cloudy With A Chance of GORGeous Nuptuals Seriously, if I ever was happy about anything, it was that veil of clouds that shaded this ceremony. It was still pretty bright with the intense refraction of sunlight coming from across the water and backlighting everything. This is a tough lighting situation and the clouds created a perfect diffusion for a beautiful ceremony.

2.) Mixy, Matchy Perfection One of my favorite syling elements was the bridesmaids dresses and shoes. I love that they each chose a different style from one collection. They had some pretty rockin' shoes too! So classy. I bet your girls loved you for this too!

3.) Smiles for Miles And a couple giggles too. Sometimes you just got to go with it, right! One of my favorite moments of the wedding will always and forever be the new Mr. and Mrs. leaving the alter. It is the one moment during the entire day, when you will be completely lost in each other and in a complete state of joyfullness. Treasure that beauty. This makes me tear up every time! I'll need to also add that moment when Erica and her Dad glanced at each other coming down the aisle. Seriously, get the Kleenex!

Erica + Matt :: Westin Savannah Harbor Resort Wedding Part I

I should warn everyone ahead of time that I'm completely obsessed with the precious lacey details that Erica orchestrated for her wedding day. If you follow my inspiration boards on Pinterest you know how ridiculously obsessive I am about lacey, pretty things. I'm not a fussy girl, but throw some lace and soft chiffon on there and I'm all weak in the knees and swooning like a school girl! So here are some of the highlights of what makes me swoonish about Erica and Matt's wedding details today:

1.) Lacey and Pretty. When in doubt, grab something lacey for instant femininity, Southern girl charm, and timeless appeal. My favorite inclusion was the custom made programs with an accent of lace attached.

2.) Midnight in the Gardenias and Peonies. A perfect compliment to anything lacey, pretty and girlie is the luxourious intoxication of Gardenias. They symbolize purity, refinement, and were the signature flower that Billy Holiday wore in her hair.

3.) Life's Short, Eat Dessert First. I love to bake, so when Erica showed me the custom made cookbook that was made for her with favorite dessert recipes, I knew it was destined to be!

Jennifer + Reggie :: Intimate Savannah Wedding in Washington Square

I first met Jen and Reggie in 2010 when Reggie emailed me from overseas and wanting to schedule a portrait session while on leave from his deployment. From the very beginning, you could feel the happiness and joy coming from this couple. I was overjoyed when they asked if I would be available to photograph their intimate Savannah square wedding in Washington Square.

Seriously, does it get any more gorgeous than this?!!! There is something so perfect about Spanish Moss and a golden sunset. G-O-R-G-ous!

This tent was ... well, can we just get an AMEN! Holy crap, clear top with twinkley lights in the top (just like Morgan descrbed it when she first wrote me about her wedding). Coastal with Southern Bling! I love the trees lit up in the background.

Swoon! I mean, seriously. Just like you're dancing under the stars all night.

One of my favorite parts of Morgan and John's wedding was their Lounge area complete with these really cute custom made signs. How stinkin' cute are these! John works at Charlotte Motor Speedway so this was just a perfect personal touch.

Doesn't every girl dream of her first dance under the stars like this. Magical!

Jenna and Caldwell's wedding was such a fun day (despite being really chilly for us native South Georgians)! I mean first of all Jenna and Caldwell are just the sweetest people ever with the most loving families you can imagine. I got to know Norma, Jenna's mom really well through the process of planning the wedding. Jenna really let Norma plan a good bit of the details since she was in Texas and her mom lives in Richmond Hill.

Jenna's one lucky girl! I love this ring. I might have been just slightly obsessed with the awesomeness of these super cute ruffled shoes and that divine lacey dress. Did I mention how much I love lace and ruffles? Divine.

Let's stop for a second and be humbled by the ridiculous machine that her bridesmaids are in getting that garter on Jenna! And check out those legs. Wubba. Wubba. Caldwell's one lucky dude.

We were blessed with some amazing backlit portraits among the statuesque Live Oaks at Epworth. I just can't tell you how much more perfect this could ahve been. Stunning!

Did I say it was a perfect day yet? The only thing that could have made me smile more was that their ceremony under the oaks of Epworth ended with a perfect sunset to walk off hand and hand into.

Old Sheldon Church Ruins Bridal Session

The last few weeks have been crazy (in a good way) with some stunning brides, amazing locations and the most fabulous families to share wedding celebrations with along the coast of Georgia and South Carolina. I had to squeeze Morgan's bridal session in just 3 days before her wedding. Yeah, let me say that again THREE DAYS before her wedding. I could have laid a big wet smooch on the Fed Ex when he dropped her gorgeous canvas portrait off that our friends at Miller's Lab was able to rush through production.

Morgan really wanted to shoot her engagement session at Sheldon Church Ruins after I showed it to her, but naturally the day they were down from Charlotte, there was a wedding ceremony scheduled for that day. I'm really glad that we saved this magical place fro her bridal portraits. It couldn't have been any more magical.

LAUREN AND JEFF :: PART 2 SAVANNAH FORSYTH PARK FIRST LOOK AND WEDDING PORTRAITS

I know a lot of brides cringe at least just a little at the thought of her groom seeing her before the ceremony. It really goes against everything we are taught here in the deep South. I'll be the first to say there are times when a first look is appropriate and other times when it doesn't affect my job as a photographer.

As we were planning, Lauren had originally not planned on a first look, but as the day rolled closer and closer, it become really apparent that in this case, our timeline, the amount of available light after the ceremony and Lauren's desire to have a real diverse collection of couple's portraits was going to be a real bear! She was super cool about flipping her schedule to a include an intimate first look with her groom, Jeff. She completely agve me free reign to take the theme (the Savannah Live Oak) and interpret that through some amazing landscape portraits.

The Candler Oak is such a uniquely Savannah landmark and seemed so fitting for a intimate first look. It's on the Natural Register of Historic Trees and has quite a history in Savannah. Being a full on history nerd (ask me sometime about my completely useless Masters degree and random collection of useless trivia), you know I was all about pulling this landscape into the portraits. Thank you for allowing me to bring this gorgeous monument of Savannah into your wedding day memories.

Morgan and John :: Hilton Head Island Wedding Photographer

I knew right away I was going to love Morgan and John when she shared with me that her wedding theme was going to be Low Country Bling with an outdoor reception covered in twinkle lights. Seriously. I can't think of a more perfect way to celebrate everything that is amazing and awesome about this couple than with that single pure, casual and fun vision.

We had a great time shooting their engagement sesion around Sea Pines and the private beach near her parents house. And an amazing sunset to end the last bit of gorgeous Low Country light. I can't wait to celebrate with your families in less than two months.

Events Cards

Thanks to the amazing creative team and our industry partner at Pictage, our new and freshly designed Event Cards are here and in perfect time for the Fall Wedding Season. When Pictage approached me last fall about being in the Photographer test group to try out these new designs, I was thrilled. The designs are modern and stylish. What's not to love, right? Check out a closer look at Lauren and Jeff's cards. They are going to be tieing the knot in a few weeks.

So what the heck is an event card you ask? Event cards are wallet sized cards that include a link to your gallery of images online. We recommend laying them out near your guestbook or table card area for guests at your wedding. Event cards are a simple way to share your images online with your guests. Once they've registered on your photo gallery, they will be notified when your images are ready to be viewed. Easy Peasy, right. And they are included in all of the wedding collections for no additional charge. Yay, right!

It's been a hot and busy summer! I can hardly believe its almost the end of August which means a couple things for me -- the days are starting to get shorter and it's almost my busy wedding season. More importantly, it means we might start getting a break from this ridiculous heat and humidity! Okay, so maybe that's wishful thinking but a girl can dream, right?!! I've had some really awesome families that were willing to brave the heat for natural light, outdoor portraits (my favorites) and I'm really grateful they've allowed me into their lives. Here's one of my faves from the past two months. Tweens and Teens are my favorite ages to photograph. The camera loves these girls (and guy).
