This tent was ... well, can we just get an AMEN! Holy crap, clear top with twinkley lights in the top (just like Morgan descrbed it when she first wrote me about her wedding). Coastal with Southern Bling! I love the trees lit up in the background.

Swoon! I mean, seriously. Just like you're dancing under the stars all night.

One of my favorite parts of Morgan and John's wedding was their Lounge area complete with these really cute custom made signs. How stinkin' cute are these! John works at Charlotte Motor Speedway so this was just a perfect personal touch.

Doesn't every girl dream of her first dance under the stars like this. Magical!

Jenna and Caldwell's wedding was such a fun day (despite being really chilly for us native South Georgians)! I mean first of all Jenna and Caldwell are just the sweetest people ever with the most loving families you can imagine. I got to know Norma, Jenna's mom really well through the process of planning the wedding. Jenna really let Norma plan a good bit of the details since she was in Texas and her mom lives in Richmond Hill.

Jenna's one lucky girl! I love this ring. I might have been just slightly obsessed with the awesomeness of these super cute ruffled shoes and that divine lacey dress. Did I mention how much I love lace and ruffles? Divine.

Let's stop for a second and be humbled by the ridiculous machine that her bridesmaids are in getting that garter on Jenna! And check out those legs. Wubba. Wubba. Caldwell's one lucky dude.

We were blessed with some amazing backlit portraits among the statuesque Live Oaks at Epworth. I just can't tell you how much more perfect this could ahve been. Stunning!

Did I say it was a perfect day yet? The only thing that could have made me smile more was that their ceremony under the oaks of Epworth ended with a perfect sunset to walk off hand and hand into.

Old Sheldon Church Ruins Bridal Session

The last few weeks have been crazy (in a good way) with some stunning brides, amazing locations and the most fabulous families to share wedding celebrations with along the coast of Georgia and South Carolina. I had to squeeze Morgan's bridal session in just 3 days before her wedding. Yeah, let me say that again THREE DAYS before her wedding. I could have laid a big wet smooch on the Fed Ex when he dropped her gorgeous canvas portrait off that our friends at Miller's Lab was able to rush through production.

Morgan really wanted to shoot her engagement session at Sheldon Church Ruins after I showed it to her, but naturally the day they were down from Charlotte, there was a wedding ceremony scheduled for that day. I'm really glad that we saved this magical place fro her bridal portraits. It couldn't have been any more magical.

Check back next week for their ridiculously amazing wedding from Honey Horn Plantation that we photographed yesterday.

LAUREN AND JEFF :: PART 2 SAVANNAH FORSYTH PARK FIRST LOOK AND WEDDING PORTRAITS

I know a lot of brides cringe at least just a little at the thought of her groom seeing her before the ceremony. It really goes against everything we are taught here in the deep South. I'll be the first to say there are times when a first look is appropriate and other times when it doesn't affect my job as a photographer.

As we were planning, Lauren had originally not planned on a first look, but as the day rolled closer and closer, it become really apparent that in this case, our timeline, the amount of available light after the ceremony and Lauren's desire to have a real diverse collection of couple's portraits was going to be a real bear! She was super cool about flipping her schedule to a include an intimate first look with her groom, Jeff. She completely agve me free reign to take the theme (the Savannah Live Oak) and interpret that through some amazing landscape portraits.

The Candler Oak is such a uniquely Savannah landmark and seemed so fitting for a intimate first look. It's on the Natural Register of Historic Trees and has quite a history in Savannah. Being a full on history nerd (ask me sometime about my completely useless Masters degree and random collection of useless trivia), you know I was all about pulling this landscape into the portraits. Thank you for allowing me to bring this gorgeous monument of Savannah into your wedding day memories.

Morgan and John :: Hilton Head Island Wedding Photographer

I knew right away I was going to love Morgan and John when she shared with me that her wedding theme was going to be Low Country Bling with an outdoor reception covered in twinkle lights. Seriously. I can't think of a more perfect way to celebrate everything that is amazing and awesome about this couple than with that single pure, casual and fun vision.

We had a great time shooting their engagement sesion around Sea Pines and the private beach near her parents house. And an amazing sunset to end the last bit of gorgeous Low Country light. I can't wait to celebrate with your families in less than two months.

Events Cards

Thanks to the amazing creative team and our industry partner at Pictage, our new and freshly designed Event Cards are here and in perfect time for the Fall Wedding Season. When Pictage approached me last fall about being in the Photographer test group to try out these new designs, I was thrilled. The designs are modern and stylish. What's not to love, right? Check out a closer look at Lauren and Jeff's cards. They are going to be tieing the knot in a few weeks.

So what the heck is an event card you ask? Event cards are wallet sized cards that include a link to your gallery of images online. We recommend laying them out near your guestbook or table card area for guests at your wedding. Event cards are a simple way to share your images online with your guests. Once they've registered on your photo gallery, they will be notified when your images are ready to be viewed. Easy Peasy, right. And they are included in all of the wedding collections for no additional charge. Yay, right!

It's been a hot and busy summer! I can hardly believe its almost the end of August which means a couple things for me -- the days are starting to get shorter and it's almost my busy wedding season. More importantly, it means we might start getting a break from this ridiculous heat and humidity! Okay, so maybe that's wishful thinking but a girl can dream, right?!! I've had some really awesome families that were willing to brave the heat for natural light, outdoor portraits (my favorites) and I'm really grateful they've allowed me into their lives. Here's one of my faves from the past two months. Tweens and Teens are my favorite ages to photograph. The camera loves these girls (and guy).

The Friday Five

It's been a while since I shared some of the things going on in my personal life. Okay, maybe just a long time since I've blogged at all. Ha! I'm definitely going to be working on that in the upcoming months. Chris and I built raised beds for our herb garden, a trellis box for our cucumbers and containers for our tomatoes. It's been pretty cool to watch everything grow and watch go from the planter to the plate. You can see the progression of our plants here (from left to right: seedlings, thyme, lavender)

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook then you know I'm an Iron Chef, Bizarre Foods, No Reservations fanatic. We made a yummy grilled Tilapia with a parmesan basil pesto sauce. Here's some of our pictures from the kitchen I took with my point and shoot Nikon D40 and using the "Nifty Fifty" 50 mm f/1.8. I love the bokeh in the stainless steel bowl with the whisk.

I think at the end of the season, I'm going to pull all of our favorite recipe's, cooking and herb photos and make a coffee table book with photos and recipes. Some of my favorite recipes this year have come from Cooking Light's annual best of cookbook.

I'm all about buying local. Nourish is definitely one of my favorite shops on Broughton Street in downtown Savannah. They are at the corner of Broughton and Barnard. If you are downtown, don't miss the opportunity to go check out their all natural, locally made soaps and bath products. The Bath Fizzies and the Don't Bug My Dog soap are my favorites. With natural goodness in them like Jojoba oil, coconut oil and shea butter and scented with things like lemongrass and hibiscus, your skin will love you and your mojo will thank you for the relaxation and escape. Destination Brides, their soy candles and aromatherapy products would make a great treat in a Buy Local Welcome Basket. (Psst... the remainder of the images in this post were shot using the Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 VR lens. I used open shade and eliminated any distraction or business behind by blurring the background with the shallow depth of field at the widest aperture and zooming in.)

I'm a Southern Girl at heart, born and raised here in Savannah. One of my favorite memories as a child was taking care of the garden and canning, freezing vegetables and pickling. Maybe this is where my love for the Mason Jar came from but regardless it has as many uses around my house as duct tape. (from left to right: Dried Dill, Peppermint Iced Tea, canned tomatoes, Peach Preserves, and Pickled Okra/Cucumbers).

Speaking of yummy goodness, I'm all about wine thirty. The Cupcake Prosecco is one of my favorites!!! Seriously. And under $10 a bottle it's a steal. I never drink champagne anymore. It's perfectly dry and no headache from the Nitrates. Chris buys Two Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's by the case. $1.99 a bottle. What?!! You gotta read the whole story about it over here. And since there seems to be a local theme going on on my 5 Things I Love today, I had to include Butterduck's Wine. They are a small winery just outside of Savannah in Effingham County. Check their website for their wine and food pairings. It would make a sweet and romantic date off the beaten path. Of course, if you don't wnat to drive out of town to try their wine, Moon river Brewing Company on Bay Street also sells their wine.

I really couldn't talk frosty beverages without including my friend, Guinness. Okay so maybe it's 6 Things I love!

It's summertime, so I can't leave this list without some of my favorite beauty products. Two things I can't live without -- high humidity hairspray and SPF tinted moisturizer. I'm a child of the 70's. We were so brutal to our skin. I remember my friends in high school sunbathing with baby oil and vegetable oil. OMG. Seriously people. Use sunscreen. Period. This product is light and it hardly feels like you're wearing anything. It wears really well with mineral powders too. Speaking of sun damage and skin hyper-pigmentation, Pond's Clarant B3 is AMAZE-ing at evening out skin tone and dark spots from sun damage.

Oooohh and Happy independence Day! Hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday.
